LESSON 2 · Sci-Fi That Saw the Future

Gibson After Neuromancer

Gibson's later novels moved closer to the present, eventually leaving the far future behind. Pattern Recognition (2003) is set in a post-9/11 present that feels more like science fiction than most actual science fiction. His "Blue Ant" trilogy examines how technology reshapes identity, marketing, and perception in real time. Gibson is also known for the line "the future is already here, it's just not evenly distributed," the idea that different people live in different technological eras at the same time.
