Dune's Cultural Reach

Denis Villeneuve's 2021 and 2024 film adaptations brought Dune to huge global audiences and showed that Herbert's themes hit even harder in an era of climate crisis and resource wars. The two films grossed over a billion dollars combined. Herbert also wrote five sequels, each more ambitious than the last — in God Emperor of Dune, Paul's son Leto II merges with sandworms and rules as an immortal tyrant to force humanity onto a survival path.
