LESSON 2 · Live With Intention

Practical Wisdom

Aristotle called phronesis (practical wisdom) the master virtue that makes all the others possible. Without it, you cannot tell which virtue a situation calls for. Courage without wisdom becomes recklessness; generosity without wisdom becomes waste.

Phronesis is not learned from books. It grows through experience, reflection, and the guidance of wise people. A young person can be brave or generous but cannot yet possess phronesis, because they have not lived enough to read situations accurately.
