The Dichotomy of Control
The most powerful Stoic tool is a simple question: is this within my control? Epictetus divided all of life into two categories. Things you control: your judgments, your effort, your responses. Things you do not: other people's opinions, the weather, the past.

Most anxiety comes from pouring energy into the second category. You cannot force your boss to appreciate you, but you can decide how to respond if they do not. This shift — from outcome to effort — is what gives Stoicism its remarkable staying power across centuries.
