Certainty Is Overrated

Postmodernism emerged in the mid-20th century as a rebellion against the confident claims of the Enlightenment. Where modernism said "science and reason will solve everything," postmodernists asked: solve it for whom? Whose version of reason? Whose truth?

Thinkers like Jacques Derrida, Michel Foucault, and Jean-François Lyotard argued that what we call "truth" is often shaped by power, culture, and language. The stories we tell about progress, justice, and human nature are not neutral descriptions — they are constructions with winners and losers.
