The Blind Will

Beneath every thought, desire, and action, Schopenhauer claimed, lies a single force he called the Will — a blind, purposeless drive that pushes all living things to strive, hunger, reproduce, and compete. It is not conscious. It has no goal. It simply demands more.

You feel the Will as constant wanting. Hunger, ambition, desire, restlessness — these are the Will operating through you. Schopenhauer argued that satisfaction is always temporary, because the moment one desire is fulfilled the Will produces a new one.
