LESSON 2 · What Makes Us Happy?
Escape Through Art
Schopenhauer offered one surprising, partial escape: aesthetic contemplation. When you are genuinely absorbed in music, painting, or nature, the Will falls quiet. You stop wanting and simply perceive. For those moments, you are free.

He ranked music the highest art form because it does not represent the world — it expresses the Will directly. When a symphony moves you, you are hearing the structure of desire and suffering translated into sound, with no object standing in between.
