LESSON 6 · What Makes Us Happy?

Amor Fati: Love Your Fate

Nietzsche's most powerful idea might be amor fati — the love of fate. Not just accepting what happens to you but loving it. Every failure, every heartbreak, every moment of suffering shaped who you are. To wish any of it away is to wish yourself away.

This is not passive acceptance. Amor fati is an aggressive embrace of everything life throws at you. It means saying yes to the whole of your existence — the losses as well as the wins — because each part made you who you are. To resent your past is to resent yourself.
