LESSON 5 · Mind-Bending Thought Experiments
The Lesson of Scale
The infinite monkey theorem teaches humility about scale. Numbers that seem huge to us — the age of the universe, the count of atoms in existence — are infinitely far from infinity. Our intuitions about probability evolved for small-scale survival, not cosmic reasoning.
That matters, because climate, evolution, and cosmology all demand thinking beyond human-scale instinct. The monkey theorem is a training exercise for minds built to count dozens, not infinities.
