The Chapter Structure

Tarantino organizes films into chapters with title cards, treating cinema like pulp literature. This structure allows him to jump between timelines, perspectives, and tonal registers without confusing the audience.

Kill Bill's chapter structure transforms a simple revenge plot into an epic by dividing it across genres: martial arts, spaghetti western, anime, samurai film. Each chapter has its own visual language and emotional register, unified by the protagonist's mission.

The chapter approach also lets Tarantino control information release. In Pulp Fiction, the non-chronological chapter order changes the story's emotional meaning.
