Practical Origins
Before digital, VFX meant practical effects: miniatures, matte paintings, forced perspective, and animatronics. The original Star Wars used models filmed with motion-control cameras. The Thing used practical creature effects that remain more disturbing than most digital work four decades later.

Practical effects have a tactile quality that digital struggles to replicate. When an audience sees a real explosion or a physical puppet, their brain registers the authentic physics — the way light hits irregular surfaces, how weight affects movement.
