The Miracle
In the 1990s, Korean cinema was barely known outside Asia. By 2020, Parasite became the first non-English film to win the Best Picture Oscar. This transformation happened through deliberate government investment in film education and production combined with a generation of extraordinary filmmakers.

Directors like Park Chan-wook, Bong Joon-ho, and Lee Chang-dong combined genre thrills with social commentary and aesthetic boldness. Korean cinema offered what Hollywood increasingly could not: original stories told with maximum creative ambition.
