Miyazaki: Animated Souls
Hayao Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli films — Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke — combine hand-drawn animation with ecological philosophy and emotional complexity. His films have no simple villains. Antagonists have understandable motivations. Nature is both beautiful and terrifyingly powerful.

Miyazaki insists on moments of "gratuitous motion" — characters simply sitting, eating, or watching the sky — that serve no plot purpose but create the feeling of a lived-in world. These breathing spaces make the animated world feel more real than most live-action films.
