The Formula Behind the Magic
Hit songs are not random. Researchers analyzing decades of Billboard data have identified structural and sonic patterns that separate chart-toppers from everything else. The average hit has a specific architecture: intro, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge, chorus, outro.

The most critical element is the chorus. It arrives within the first 60 seconds in most modern hits (often within 30). It is louder, higher in pitch, denser in production, and contains the song's hook — the melodic or rhythmic fragment that lodges in your brain.
