LESSON 4 · Legends of the Stage
A Genre-Defying Catalog
As frontman of Queen, Mercury presided over one of music's most boundary-breaking catalogs:
- "Bohemian Rhapsody" — a six-minute rock opera with no chorus that the label called too long and weird for radio, yet it became a best-selling single.
- "We Will Rock You" — rock stripped to stomping feet and clapping hands, now a universal sports anthem.
- "Somebody to Love" — gospel harmonies layered over rock, built from more than 100 vocal overdubs.
- "Another One Bites the Dust" — a funk-disco bassline that proved Queen could master any genre.
