Marley's Enduring Legacy
Bob Marley died of melanoma on May 11, 1981, at age 36. His legacy only kept growing:
- Legend (1984), his greatest-hits compilation, has sold over 30 million copies — the best-selling reggae album ever
- "One Love" was voted song of the millennium by BBC listeners
- His face is one of the most recognized on Earth, from T-shirts to murals worldwide
- His sound echoes through hip-hop, punk, and electronic music
Marley proved that music from the margins can move the center.
