LESSON 5 · Capturing Reality
Serial Vision
Claude Monet (1840-1926) didn't just paint haystacks — he painted them 25 times. He painted Rouen Cathedral 30 times. He painted his water lily pond more than 250 times. These weren't repetitions. Each canvas captured a specific moment: a particular quality of light at a particular hour.

Monet set up multiple canvases outdoors and rotated between them as the light shifted. He'd work on one for minutes before switching to the next. A cloudy interval meant grabbing a different canvas.
