Sunlight as Scripture

Most medieval worshippers could not read, so the windows did the teaching. Arranged in sequence, the panels walked viewers through creation, the life of Christ, and the saints — a "Bible of the poor" written in light instead of words.

The effect was deliberate. As the sun moved, the colors shifted and glowed, so the same scene felt alive at dawn and at dusk. For a congregation standing inside, scripture wasn't just heard from the pulpit — it surrounded them, glowing on every wall.
