Trap Engineering
The Venus flytrap closes in roughly 100 milliseconds — one of the fastest movements in the plant kingdom. The open lobes are held curved and under tension, like a compressed tennis ball storing energy. When triggered, the outer cell walls soften in about a second and release that stored elastic energy all at once, so the lobes snap and buckle shut.

Sundews use a different strategy. Their leaves are covered in sticky tentacles that slowly curl around trapped insects over hours. The glue is remarkably strong for its volume, and the slow curl pulls the prey toward more glands until escape is impossible.
