Ming was an **ocean quahog clam** dredged from the seabed near Iceland. Scientists counted the growth rings in its shell, like tree rings, and found it had lived for roughly **five centuries** — hatching around the year 1499. It was still healthy when collected, hinting its clock had barely slowed.
