LESSON 5 · The Microbe Within
Beyond Gut Infections
Gut infections were just the start. Researchers are now testing transplants against conditions all over the body — obesity, depression, Parkinson's disease, autism, and even how well some cancers respond to treatment. The common thread is the gut-brain axis and the gut's links to immunity: fix the microbial ecosystem, and effects may ripple far beyond digestion.

The evidence here is early but striking. In one study, patients given stool from lean donors showed better insulin sensitivity within weeks — a hint that gut bacteria help shape metabolism. So far these are research findings, not approved cures. Still, they suggest your microbes may quietly influence how your body handles sugar and stores fat.
