LESSON 5 · Thrive Working Remote

The Invisibility Spiral

Remote isolation follows a predictable spiral. Step one: you miss a hallway chat where a project comes up. Step two: you are not looped in when it gets assigned. Step three: an in-office peer lands the project and the visibility with it. Step four: at promotion time, that peer has the story and you have "consistent delivery."

The spiral isn't about performance. It's about proximity — and remote workers have to counteract it on purpose.

Career momentum belongs to people who show up on Slack between the meetings, not just on Zoom. A few well-timed reactions and one helpful message a day keep you visible without demanding attention.
