Crumpling absorbs crash energy
When carbon fiber fails, it does not crumple like metal — it fractures into many small pieces. Engineers turn that into a feature: F1 'crash structures' are designed to shatter on impact, soaking up energy through progressive fragmentation so far less of it reaches the person inside.
