LESSON 5 · Why Genres Make You Feel
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) proved science fiction could be high art. Kubrick used minimal dialogue, classical music, and abstract imagery to explore human evolution and artificial intelligence. It asked audiences to think rather than simply watch.
Blade Runner (1982) asked whether artificial beings with emotions deserve rights — a question now central to AI ethics. Alien turned sci-fi into claustrophobic horror, and The Terminator made technology itself the monster. Each film used futuristic settings to examine very present human concerns.
