LESSON 5 · Life's Big Crossroads

Reversible or Not

Bezos sorts decisions into two boxes. Type-1 choices are one-way doors — once you walk through, there is no coming back. Having a child. Quitting to bet everything on one idea. Telling a secret you can't un-tell. These deserve slow, careful thought.

Type-2 choices are revolving doors. If it flops, you walk back out. Most jobs, most purchases, most first dates live here. Deciding fast and being wrong costs little. Deciding slowly on everything costs years.

Regret minimization shines on type-2 doors. The downside is a lesson, not a trap — so when in doubt, walk through.
