LESSON 5 · The Perfect Puppy Schedule

Restrain Every Ride

Loose dogs and cars do not mix. A dog roaming the back seat is a distraction at best, and in a crash an unrestrained dog is thrown with enough force to injure itself and the people it hits.

That is why the only safe setups are a crash-tested crate or a car-rated harness clipped to the seatbelt — both built and tested for impact, unlike a clip-on leash.

Make it routine from the very first ride, so buckling up feels as normal to your puppy as it does to you.
