LESSON 5 · The Future of Work & Money

Money Reimagined

Cryptocurrency is the most fundamental challenge to traditional money since governments took control of currency centuries ago. Bitcoin's 2009 launch proposed something radical: money with no central authority. By 2024 the crypto market was worth trillions of dollars, and the SEC approved the first Bitcoin ETFs for mainstream investors.

The underlying technology — blockchain — creates a decentralized ledger that records every transaction across thousands of computers simultaneously. No single entity controls it. No government can print more. This trustless system eliminates the need for banks as intermediaries.
