Not Quite Socialist

The Nordic model is frequently misunderstood by both sides of the political spectrum. American progressives call it socialism. Conservatives call it unsustainable. Neither description is accurate.

Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Iceland run fiercely competitive market economies paired with comprehensive welfare states. Private ownership dominates. Entrepreneurship flourishes. The difference is that the social safety net catches everyone who falls.
