• Perception first — do listening drills until you hit 90 percent accuracy
• Production second — record both words and test with native speakers or apps
• Use sentences — put both words in context: "The ship sailed past the sheep farm"
• Exaggerate, then normalize the difference as it gets easier

Minimal pairs are the precision tool of pronunciation: rhythm and stress give the big picture, while these give the fine detail that prevents embarrassing mix-ups.
