LESSON 5 · Planning Your Financial Future

Five Conversations That Matter

You don't need a financial degree. Just weave these into daily life:

  1. At the grocery store: "This cereal costs $5 and this one costs $3. What's different? Is it worth $2 more to you?"
  2. When they want something: "That's $40. How many hours of chores would that take? Still want it?"
  3. On payday: "Here's what our family earns and where it goes." Age-appropriate honesty builds trust.
  4. About advertising: "What is this commercial trying to make you feel? How does that feeling make you want to spend?"
  5. About delayed gratification: "If you save $5 a week for 6 weeks, you can afford the bigger version."

Consistency beats perfection. Even one money conversation per week changes their trajectory.
