Seven Voyages, Zero Colonies

Between 1405 and 1433, Zheng He completed seven massive voyages across Southeast Asia, India, the Persian Gulf, and East Africa:

  • Southeast Asia — established trade agreements and diplomatic ties with dozens of kingdoms
  • India and Sri Lanka — intervened in local conflicts and captured a hostile king
  • East Africa — reached the port of Mogadishu and traded for exotic animals and goods

The remarkable part: Zheng He wasn't conquering. He projected power through trade and diplomacy, not colonization. He gave gifts, not ultimatums.
