Solve Three Quadratics
Practice the quadratic formula on three problems. First: x² − 5x + 6 = 0. Here a=1, b=−5, c=6. Discriminant = 25 − 24 = 1. x = (5 ± 1) / 2 = 3 or 2.
Second: 2x² + 3x − 2 = 0. a=2, b=3, c=−2. Discriminant = 9 + 16 = 25. x = (−3 ± 5) / 4 = 1/2 or −2.
Third: x² + 2x + 5 = 0. Discriminant = 4 − 20 = −16. Negative — no real solutions, only complex ones (x = −1 ± 2i).
Three problems cover the three discriminant cases. Run the formula three times and the mechanics become automatic. Then any projectile, any bridge cable, any break-even equation that reduces to a quadratic — you solve in under a minute with this single formula.
