LESSON 4 · Feed Your Mind

Color and Consistency

The most helpful gut bacteria feed on polyphenols — the pigments that make berries deep blue and green tea slightly bitter. Foods rich in them, like blueberries, dark chocolate, and green tea, double as fuel for your best microbes.

But the timing matters as much as the menu. Consistency is what shifts your gut: your microbes respond to what you eat this week, not to one good year. A handful of colorful, polyphenol-rich foods eaten most days does more than a perfect plan you keep for a weekend. Skip the strict rules; just keep it colorful and steady.
