Add the Word "Yet"
Children learn more from watching you fail than from watching you succeed, so let them see you struggle — get lost driving, flub a new hobby, and narrate it:
- "I'm not very good at this yet. But I'm getting better with practice."
- "I made a mistake at work today. Here's what I learned from it."
That one word changes everything. "I can't do this" is a dead end. "I can't do this yet" is a growth statement. Teach your child to tack "yet" onto every "I can't," and watch their relationship with difficulty shift.
