LESSON 5 · Raise Resilient Kids
The Gift of Nothing
Boredom is not a problem to solve — it is a condition to protect. The bored child is the child whose brain is about to create something. So many imaginary worlds and backyard inventions began with three words: "I'm bored."
When your child says they are bored, resist the urge to entertain them. Instead say: "That's great. Boredom is where ideas come from. What does your brain want to create?"
The first stretch of boredom is uncomfortable. The child may complain, wander, or pester you. After that, something shifts. They start building, drawing, imagining, or exploring. That shift is creativity activating.
