LESSON 5 · Tantrum Survival Guide

Sensory Overload

Some children have sensory processing differences that make ordinary environments overwhelming. The hum of fluorescent lights, the texture of clothing tags, the noise level of a cafeteria — these can be genuinely painful.

If you suspect sensory issues, an occupational therapist trained in sensory integration can assess your child. Simple accommodations like noise-reducing headphones, seamless clothing, or a quiet retreat space at home can transform daily life for a sensory-sensitive child.
