LESSON 5 · Release the Parent Guilt

Modeling for Your Children

Your relationship with social media is teaching your children their future relationship with it. If you scroll during dinner, they learn that phones trump people. If you compare yourself to other parents online, they learn that comparison is normal.

The most powerful intervention is not a rule but an example:

  • Put your phone in a drawer during family time
  • Talk openly about how social media makes you feel
  • Choose real connection over curated content

When they see you set healthy boundaries with technology, they treat those boundaries as the default.
