LESSON 5 · Screens: The Modern Battle
What Games Actually Teach
Not all gaming is empty consumption. Many games teach genuine skills that traditional education neglects:
- Strategy games develop planning, resource management, and consequence-thinking
- Sandbox games build creativity and spatial reasoning
- Multiplayer games teach communication, teamwork, and conflict resolution
- Narrative games build empathy through perspective-taking
- Puzzle games strengthen logical reasoning and persistence
The parental knee-jerk of "games are a waste of time" ignores decades of research showing measurable cognitive benefits from specific game types. This does not mean all games are educational.
