What Games Actually Teach

Not all gaming is empty consumption. Many games teach genuine skills that traditional education neglects:

  • Strategy games develop planning, resource management, and consequence-thinking
  • Sandbox games build creativity and spatial reasoning
  • Multiplayer games teach communication, teamwork, and conflict resolution
  • Narrative games build empathy through perspective-taking
  • Puzzle games strengthen logical reasoning and persistence

The parental knee-jerk of "games are a waste of time" ignores decades of research showing measurable cognitive benefits from specific game types. This does not mean all games are educational.
