Why It Happens
Favoritism often stems from temperament matching. A quiet, bookish parent may naturally connect more easily with a quiet child. An active parent may gravitate toward the outgoing one.

Sometimes one child is simply easier. A compliant child requires less energy than a strong-willed one. An even-tempered child is more pleasant than one with big emotions. Acknowledging this honestly — to yourself, not the children — is the first step.
