A 2025 meta-analysis in Psychological Bulletin pooled roughly 19,000 people and found both mothers and fathers leaned slightly toward daughters and toward the more responsible, easygoing child. It is a soft pull, not a rule, but it shows favoritism follows predictable patterns rather than pure chance.
