LESSON 5 · What Everything Is Made Of

Matter Meets Antimatter

When matter meets its antimatter counterpart, both particles are destroyed and their entire mass turns into pure energy via E = mc². This is the most efficient energy conversion in physics. Compare how much mass each process actually converts:

  • A nuclear bomb: roughly 0.1%
  • Fusion in the Sun: about 0.7%
  • Matter-antimatter annihilation: 100%

That staggering density is why antimatter is the dream fuel in science fiction. Star Trek's Enterprise runs on matter-antimatter reactions.
