Charging at a Distance

Current wireless charging works at millimeters, not meters. But companies are developing systems that beam power across a room using focused radio waves or infrared lasers.

Even if the physics works, the convenience has to be worth it. A beam crossing a room loses far more energy than a coil touching your pad, and a simple cable still charges faster than anything aimed through the air. Until distance charging closes that gap, it stays a niche trick rather than a replacement for the wire.
