Atmospheric red refraction
During a total lunar eclipse, Earth's atmosphere acts as a lens. Blue wavelengths scatter away (Rayleigh scattering, the same effect that makes our sky blue); red wavelengths bend through to the Moon — painting it a copper-red **Blood Moon**.
