LESSON 5 · What Actually Drives You
Purpose and Resilience
Purpose does not prevent hardship. It gives you a framework for enduring it.
When you know your why, obstacles become challenges rather than reasons to quit. A brutal stretch of medical school is bearable when it is driven by the purpose of healing people.
Purpose also brings clarity under pressure. Asking "which option fits my purpose?" cuts through analysis paralysis.
Studies of veterans, cancer survivors, and refugees show that people who build a narrative of meaning around their experience have better psychological outcomes. The event does not change — the meaning they give it changes everything.
