LESSON 5 · Escape Toxic Patterns
Patterns In Disguise
Toxic behavior usually hides behind a reason that makes it feel fair.
Controlling. Do you need to know where your partner is at all times? Do you make their choices for them "because you know best"?
Manipulation. Do you use guilt, silence, or tears to get your way? Do you dredge up old mistakes during unrelated fights?
Cruelty as honesty. "I'm just being honest" is the favorite shield for needless meanness. Real feedback is specific, useful, and kind.
No accountability. Do your apologies hide a "but"? "Sorry, but you provoked me." Refusing to fully own a mistake is one of the most damaging habits of all.
