LESSON 5 · Burnout: Recognize, Recover, Prevent

How It Develops

Relationship burnout sets in when the emotional labor of maintaining the relationship keeps outweighing its rewards. It usually grows from a few common sources.

One-sided effort. You make the plans, remember birthdays, handle logistics and the hard conversations. Your partner takes part but rarely drives.

Unresolved conflict. The same arguments repeat endlessly, and each cycle drains you a little more.

Caretaker fatigue. Being the constant supporter for a partner with chronic illness or addiction wears you down, especially when progress is slow.
