LESSON 5 · The New Rules of Commitment

The Hardest Question

After betrayal — infidelity, deception, broken promises — the question is not just whether you can forgive. It is whether you can rebuild trust to a level that makes the relationship worth staying in.

Not all betrayals are equal. A one-time lapse, a long-term affair, and financial deception damage trust differently. But they share a requirement: the person who betrayed must take full responsibility without excuses, and the hurt person must decide whether to risk vulnerability again.
