LESSON 5 · Keep the Fire Alive

When Hard Days Hit

Healing is nonlinear. A good week can be interrupted by a sudden wave of old hurt — a song, a date, a passing comment, and the wound feels raw again. This is normal, not a relapse.

The trap is silence. The hurt partner withdraws to hide the flashback; the other reads the cold shoulder as rejection and pulls back too. Name it instead. A simple "I just got hit by a hard memory, it's not about you" turns a spiral into a shared moment. Setbacks shrink when they're spoken, not hidden.
