LESSON 5 · Voice Care Essentials
Preparing for Your Appointment
Before visiting a voice specialist, prepare a detailed voice history. Note when the problem started, what activities worsen it, what your daily vocal demands look like, medications you take, and any reflux or allergy symptoms. This information dramatically speeds diagnosis.
Bring a recording of your voice on a good day and a bad day if possible. Avoid clearing your throat or warming up before the appointment so the specialist can hear your voice in its problem state. Being transparent about habits like smoking, alcohol use, and caffeine intake helps the specialist understand contributing factors.
