Microphone feedback, sudden cut-outs, and audio system failures happen to every speaker eventually. The audience's response mirrors the speaker's. If you panic, they become uncomfortable.

Have a rehearsed response ready. Something simple like "well, that is one way to get your attention" buys time while technicians work. Project your voice naturally while the system is being fixed. If the fix will take more than a minute, move closer to the audience and speak directly.
